The work of Alexander Rolof (* 1964, Dortmund) is determined by the power of abstraction. The artist seeks inspiration in the concrete: for years he has been wandering on foot through cities in Germany, directing his gaze to things on the edge - cracks in the masonry, testing the sensual power of crumbling plaster and broken panes. He observes how time takes possession of houses and streets. Becoming and passing is the theme of his art. He calls his pictures "contemporary witnesses".
