Abstrakte Malerei und Geometrie waren die wesentlichen Elemente, die Claude Roegiers Werke in der Anfangsphase bestimmten. Ab 2005 wurde der "warp und welft" Effekt zu seiner unverwechselbaren Handschrift. Der Künstler aus Belgien bearbeitet alte Photographien – darunter viele Motive aus China. Er setzt Ölfarben so ein, dass das Bild dahinter verschwimmt – zugleich wird es abstrahiert, die Szenerien konkretisiert.

Portraits sowie alltägliche Eindrücke verlieren ihre Bedeutungslosigkeit. Es entstehen Motive, getragen von einer stillen, nostalgischen anmutenden Poesie, die den Betrachter durch ihre Unerreichbarkeit und Zeitlosigkeit beeindrucken.

Claude Roegiers lebt in Paris und Miami – ist auf allen wichtigen Messen und Ausstellungen weltweit vertreten – unter anderem in Hong Kong, Hampstead, New York, Miami, Basel, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Köln, Stockholm, Mailand.

Roegiers Claude

Abstract painting and geometry were the key elements that distinguished Claude Roegiers’ work early on. By 2005, the “warp and welft” effect had become his unmistakable handwriting. The Belgian artist works with old photographs, many of which depict Chinese subjects. He applies oil paints in a way that blurs the image beneath – the image becomes abstract, the scenery concrete. Portraits as well as everyday impressions lose their meaninglessness. Motifs emerge, carried by a subtle, nostalgic poetry, that impress the observer with a sense of the timeless and unreachable.
